Back Online!
I truly don't know what was worse. Having no internet hook up or having no land line (home phone). What a month!
Here are some pictures to catch you all up on our month without hookup:
ok, I lied. I can't get DH's memory card to work. here are a FEW things we did recently:
My nephew's christening. I made Lil lady and I coordinating outfits. Mine was a self-drafted skirt with pleats even! I even made the top out of the most buttery knit evah! Hers was a from a vintage pattern with retro fabric and with vintage buttons! (ya, I had some fun with that!)

Lil lady lost her first tooth!
And some random fun. I'm making a concerted effort to actually play with the kids more. Let's not talk about the realization that I barely ever play with them. Sigh. In my defense, I may have done ALL my playing with my oldest, who is now a teenager and ornery and argumentative and exhausting.. And why am I not playing with my younger two more again..? Like I said, playing with the kids more. I actually enjoy playing with playdo. It's therapeutic! Here are some of lil lady's creations why I blog (LOL yes, I did play recently!) First is a nice butterfly. Second is.. well, can you guess? I'll give you the answer soon. Feel free to leave your guess in my comments! Hey.. this could be my first contest..... ~wheels-a-turnin'~

To Be or Not To Be
Does one divulge 'secrets' in a blog or not?
I'm feeling drawn to share my day yesterday. The good. The bad. And the ugly. (oh yes, there'll be pictures)
Yesterday was possibly the worst day I've had since my mother died 6 1/2 years ago. Yesterday was a sobering day. A humbling day. The kind of day that checks you out, sticks a fork in you and sends you on your way.
The dh has a job. I've said this before. Prior to that, we had unemployment checks and their health insurance. His unemployment ran out but he qualified for the extra weeks the government was handing out. They were not issuing those checks until--well, come to find out-- today. We were two weeks without that money. And, because there were no checks, there's no health insurance. Double whammy.
Which brings me to what happened yesterday. Monday, the application was sent in for ever so humbling Mass Health Insurance. Yesterday, however, my Lil Lady had a sore throat. I suspected it was strep. I called in to her doctor, they made me an appointment. I showed up with her and asked around and sure enough, found out they'd "bill" me. That's great, People. I don't have it now, I am not going to have it then either.
So, Sweet Lil Lady and I took our spare change and went to the ER for a cost free visit. The rapid test came back positive for strep (not to mention my throat was hurting too, still is) and she had scratched a bug bite into a not so friendly looking state so the antibiotics would take care of both.
Three hours later, we walk out of the ER, cookies in hand, to pay the parking with quarters, dimes and nickles. I had $2 worth but it came to $3. Um, ok, I happened to have $1.24 in my account so I paid $2 cash, $1 on debit. Good thing she's only 5 and doesn't notice.
I then go home, pick up the kids (thanks again, JC), and grab DH's bucketful of change. We go to the market, pour the change in, and find out we have $39.90 worth. Buy oldest child a box of cereal so he'll stop complaining that his favorite cereals are all gone and head to W-Mart for the prescription.
The whole time I'm sweating because I have $35 in my hand, will that be enough for the prescription. I'm praying and praying.. Please let it be enough, please let it be enough..
I then look at my phone and DH has texted me that we've gotten $50 put in our account from family. Thank you God and family I breathe a little easier, find out the script will be $35.68, pick up a few more things and head home.
I just start to feel better. I sigh a huge sigh of relief. I make some simple dinner (bagels with ham and egg sandwiches) and send the kids to watch tv.
Then, it happens.
CRASH-- MOM!!
Lil Lady not only fell down the whole set of hardwood steps, she rolled head over heels, then sideways, right. to. the. bottom.
She's crying, I'm anxious-- do I have to go back to the ER?=-- she's bruised across the nose, two huge eggs on her head, another small bump, some bleeding from the nose and a fat lip. Then, she falls asleep. ACK. There's more crying as ds2 finds out the dumb #$(&# dog ate his dinner. DS1 comes in and asks where's HIS dinner? I'm thinking "Can this be for real?" DH is out at work until the following day.
Well, the long and short of it is, Lil Lady woke up for me, her pupils were responsive, there was no vomiting, she was checking her face out in the mirror a couple hours later and slept with me that night.
Here's a picture but, honestly, it does the actual damage done to her face no justice. And below that, a reminder of how beautiful she truly is.
Update: A CAT scan 6 days later showed that she did, in fact, fracture her skull. A hairline, small fracture, but a fracture none the less. Many thanks, God, that it wasn't anything more than that.
Things to be thankful for- we didn't have to go back to the ER last night.

Lost in Space
Anyway, long story short, my DSL provider is having a temper tantrum that I left their phone service and is taking SWEET time re-hooking my DSL up. So here I sit. At the library, how glamorous, and try to create a post.
In news, DH has a job! ~insert wild applause here~ Gainfully employed by a nice bunch of people in a truck driving job that's right up his alley. Yay!
I know I'm not being my 'things to be thankful' self when I admit- Ok now how to get out of the one year hole this adventure put us in? If nothing else, we've learned the adage "God will provide" and are endlessly thankful for His blessings.
In other news, I've a 'location'! Brick and mortar! I'll be debuting my line (err.. line..?) of one of a kind and other amazing handmade creations at Serendipity located on RT 20 in Auburn on Saturday 8/17. Oh boy! I'm excited and will have PICTURES soon! (ok as soon as my DSL is back up)
That's my mini update and I'm off to pick up my oldest, tallest, and most ....grrr.. be nice... wonderful child from Vacation Bible School. The two younger stay all day.. it's dreamy... Why do I homeschool again? LOL
Much love

Good Deed
I can't tell you how killer my Honey Sesame Chicken is. It's always a huge hit. More work than I usually put into cooking but well worth the effort. And it turned out that way again.
Everyone loved it, even the children. One of the people said it was a meal they'd 'definately remember'. Another said, "I'm thankful for the food every night but it can be a lot of the same thing. This was really good."
I was glad to give something back. I was glad to nurture these homeless families in need. I was glad to fill their bellies with something tasty, healthy, and full of love.
Here's the basic recipe. Sorry, I truly do not measure ingredients so good luck!
Honey Sesame Chicken
2 lbs boneless chicken
3/4 c flour
salt and pepper
1/2 c Soy sauce (I prefer braggs amino acids
1/4 c water
1/4- 1/2 c Honey
A few drops of hot sauce (optional)
Sesame seeds
Trim and cut boneless chicken into bite size pieces. Heat oil in a skillet. While heating, coat chicken in flour seasoned with salt and pepper. Cook in oil, turning, until browned and cooked through (approx 5-7 mins). Set cooked chicken aside.
In same skillet, pour about 1/2 c soy sauce and 1/4 c water. Bring to a simmer. Pour in honey and stir. Let simmer until slightly reduced. (add a few drops of hot sauce, even my kids love the tiny kick!) Return cooked chicken to the pan and gently fold over in the sauce, coating the chicken.
Once coated, put on a platter and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
YUM~

I have an addiction..
Oh yes, it's true. I'd have never thought it would happen to me but it has. In a bad way. I've gotten better. I sell something THEN buy more fabric but, alas, the money goes directly to fabric.
And what amazing fabric there is out there. Do you have any idea? If you don't sew, you may have a hard time understanding my unhealthy affection for fabric. Here's today's score--
The first is just a knit but half off of the red tag? Oh yes! I'm thinking Olivia dress with applique.. :D. The second one was under $1.50 and the pic does it no justice! The third is the softest most adorable Hippo knit, I mean come on! Who wouldn't love that?? The fourth.. oh my.. the fourth almost didn't come home with me. Long story short, I landed it as a remnant- 50% off $13 a yard, (that's a HIGH original price!). Can you see the wonderful horses embroidered on it? I'm in LOVE! And then the next, are those the cutest little animals on cordouroy you've ever seen? I've yet to see if Lil Lady thinks she's too big for it. She is Hannah Montana's biggest 5 yr old fan, after all. The last is another wonderful cordouroy. I think it would look great as a jumper or a skirt with a pink top.
Fabric makes me happy. LOL Ok laugh all you want. Sewing Mamas out there know! And the fact that I sold a bunch of stuff to buy the fabric is pretty cool too.
